My other Passion in Life

With winter upon us and not much riding going on I would like to share with you my other passion in life, the glamorous and adrenaline filled world of Formula 1.   I have loved Formula 1 since I was a kid, probably my father's fault since he would take me to all kinds of motor racing events all the time and I still follow Formula 1 passionately.  I have attended numerous Formula 1 races in a few countries and read about it all the time.  Every time I hear the shrill of a formula 1 engine revving up to 19000 rpm's I get a rush of adrenaline through my body and start behaving like a kid.  The Formula 1 season and championship ended recently and my favorite team was not able to take the crown, I'm talking about Ferrari.  I am happy for Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel, as he has proven to be a very fast competitor, for winning the championship. I would have preferred Fernando Alonso and Ferrari but he came second in the championship, Ferrari made a mistake on the last race and lost the championship.
I found a video that captures the essence of Formula 1 perfectly.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

  2. You will just have to go near a Formula 1 car to understand, the sound of the V8's screaming at 19,000 rpm is just unbelievable :-)

  4. I've always liked watching Formula 1 through the years from time-to-time. I liked the names of some of the older champions like Niki Lauda and Emerson Fittipaldi. Of course it was always great to watch Jackie Stewart.

  5. My daughter loves Formula 1, but has found it frustrating to follow it here in the States. She has gritted her teeth and become a NASCAR fan.

  6. Mike: I'm from those days too, I still remember the JPS-Lotus 72D driven by Fittipaldi, I have a model toy of it. F1 was nice back then, Niki Lauda on the Ferrari :-) I still remember 76 when he crashed. Today there's too much politics in F1 but I still enjoy.

Circle Blue: I'm glad your daughter likes F1, it's a pity that coverage is not that good here. F1 is returning to the US in 2012, Austin, Texas this time. I will be there for sure :-)

  7. F1 fan, eh!? So I shouldn't probably mention that I have done the Nuerburg Ring (ok, I am German so that's an easy one) and was once invited in a VIP lounge during the Monaco lap, and oh, I have once been in Montreal during the races, too.

  8. Sonja: I have been to the Montreal GP too. My dream is to drive an M3 on the Nürburgring long track ;-) Never been to Monaco but that race is on my bucket list :-)

  9. Hey George, not too much of an F1 fan myself but I do watch it occasionally - I love the speed sports, anything with a high-revving, sweet sounding internal combustion engine and F1 certainly is that! I sincerely hope you get to drive an M3 around Nurburgring one day.
